IdeasEdit

Move commerce, and everything in the economy which is digitizable, into virtual worlds, etc., to dramatically reduce carbon dioxide outputs worldwide: http://scott-macleod.blogspot.com/2010/11/iguana-eye-if-much-teaching-and.html

To scientifically reverse heart disease (still the biggest cause of death in the U.S.), it's lifestyle changes - 30 minutes of walking a day, and a very low fat diet (see, for example, Ornish, Dean. 1995. Dr. Dean Ornish's Program for Reversing Heart Disease: The Only System Scientifically Proven to Reverse Heart Disease Without Drugs or Surgery. Ivy Books), that cause the change. To reverse global warming, it's probably reducing CO2 output to less than http://350.org/ (much of most of the whole world's economies run on burning fossil fuel, and hence CO2 output), and a lot of renewable energy innovation and conservation, that will turn this around. See, for example, open, free, wiki World University & School's 'Energy Technologies' lnks - http://worlduniversity.wikia.com/wiki/Energy_Technologies#World_University_and_School_Links for open MIT OCW courses, technologies, and conservation approaches.

"It can be said that CO2 in the atmosphere is increasing at the rate of 2% per year, if we begin at pre industrial revolution levels of 270-280 ppm. We are now at the 390 ppm level. We should reach the 450 ppm level in about 25 years if the world continues with business as usual." (John Moore, April 4, 2011, from http://co2now.org/ CO2 Now ).

July 11, 2013 - Evelyn McElhinney's Special Presentation - Stem Education with Unity 3D Dr Shailey Minocha and David Burden

The VIRTUAL WORLDS EDUCATION ROUNDTABLE meetings start at 11:30amSLT (2:30pm ET / 7:30pm UK time) on-Thursdays in Glasgow Caledonian University http://maps.secondlife.com/secondlife/Glasgow%20Caledonian/193/197/23

This weeks meeting will take place in our interview area in voice with transcribers.

The topic for this week's meeting will be: Stem Education with Unity 3D Dr Shailey Minocha Reader in Computing at Open University http://uk.linkedin.com/in/shaileyminocha SL: Shailey Garfield David Burden SL: Corro Moseley Dr Shailey Minocha Reader in Computing at Open University http://uk.linkedin.com/in/shaileyminocha SL:Shailey Garfield David Burden SL: Corro Mosely (http://www.daden.co.uk/). Shailey and David will be talking about - As a part of The Open University's OpenScience Laboratory, we are developing a 3D simulation of a Geology field trip based around Skiddaw in the Lake District, using the Unity software (http://unity3d.com/) and in collaboration with Daden (http://www.daden.co.uk/). During this session, we will give a demonstration of this 3D virtual geology field trip and discuss our rationale of developing a 3D simulation of a geology field trip. We will discuss the technological challenges of developing this application in Unity 3D. We will outline the opportunities that Unity 3D offers in developing 3D educational environments. Moderator: Evelyn McElhinney SL: Kali Pizzaro Hope to see you at 11:30amSLT / 2:30pmET / 7:30pmUK
